Chancellor Merkel visits Mennekes at the Hanover Trade Fair

Angela Merkel informs herself about the development of electro-mobility

Although Chancellor Angela Merkel, due to the considerable disruptions effecting international air traffic, was not able to open the trade fair herself on the evening before, she was there on the first day of the exibition to inform herself about the products and services offered by the industry and to talk to the entrepreneurs. She was accompanied by Italy's Minister of Economics, Claudio Scajola as representative of this year's partner country, Italy, as well as the Federal Minister for Education and Research, Annette Schavan.

The Chancellor was primarily interested in the subject of electro-mobility. This technology of the future found its own platform for the first time in Hanover. The new, leading international trade exhibition MobiliTec incorporates the entire added value chain of alternative automotive drive concepts. Here the expert audience was presented with systems and technical solutions for the mobility of the future.

In the course of her visit to the various stands, the Federal Chancellor and her party also visited the exhibition stand of Mennekes. With its open draft for a standard charging plug and socket system, the leading manufacturer of industrial plug and socket devices has smoothed the way for the proliferation of electro-mobility, for only with a uniform, technical standard for electrical connectivity is international electro-mobility a viable possibility. This draft standard is currently being discussed and implemented at international level by means of corresponding directives.

Chancellor Angela Merkel visited the Mennekes stand at the MobiliTec in the framework of the Hanover Trades and Industry Exhibition and was informed by Walter Mennekes (right) about charging systems for electro-mobility.

Although for the innovate enterprise from the Sauerland region the charging plug and socket system is an essential component for the proliferation and acceptance of electro-mobility, the company thinks ahead and adopts an all-round view on the subject.

Walter Mennekes, managing partner: "Certainly, our draft standard has made an important contribution in regard to electro-mobility as the topic of the future. However, this is just the basis. For the ecological and economically responsible utilisation of electro-mobility, we are working together with energy producers, network operators and automotive manufacturers in contributing towards holistic solutions for the optimal exploitation of regenerative energies."

Chancellor Angela Merkel was visibly impressed by the development already made towards practicable solutions in regard to electro-mobility. "Our cutting edge charging pillars constitute the interface between energy supplier and motor vehicle", explained Walter Mennekes to the interested guests. "They are already equipped to meet the demands of the future. On the basis of our project experience we have already set the technological points to enable direct communication between energy provider and motor vehicle. For example, it will even be possible to use motor vehicle accumulators to store energy and feed electricity back into the network."

Only when electro-mobility is integrated into a holistic energy concept will it be possible to exploit all the potentials of regenerative energy sources, for the sun and the wind do not adapt themselves to the energy needs of the consumer. This will enable the optimal exploitation of existing synergies.

The politicians were very impressed by the innovative power of the company from the Sauerland region and were convinced that the current pilot projects are essentially contributing to the sustained advancement of electro-mobility.
